“Ideal Foods”: Here Are 10 Nutrient-Rich Foods To Enhance Any Low Calorie Diet

walnuts1. Walnuts – Out of all the nuts, walnuts are one of the best sources of antioxidants that protect the body from ageing and disease. Anti-aging from the inside is more noticable than that anti-aging creams you use on the outside.

2. Celery – packed with pthalides which can help to relax the muscles around the arteries so that blood can flow at a lower pressure and therefore not cause damage to the arteries. Pthalides can also reduce stress hormones. Celery is also rich in silicon that is needed for healthy joints, bones, arteries, hair and nails.

3. Star fruit – They are a great source of vitamin C, a vital antioxidant that supports the immune system in wound healing and the fight against infection. Anyone with gum disease, toxicity or cardiovascular disease can benefit from increasing their vitamin C intake using this tasty change of fruit in your diet.

The antioxidant beta-carotene is also present in star fruit. Beta-carotene has protective effects for the skin, eyes and lungs.

4. Pumpkin seeds are rich in minerals, essential fats and protein with fertility boosting properties. A good source of zinc, magnesium and manganese these seeds can help put some va-va-voom back in the bedroom.

5. Cacao beans – Still craving chocolate? These beans are available in raw form from good health shops. They provide the sweetness you crave and are full of antioxidants, live enzymes and a plethora of phyto-nutrients. Rich in dopamine and tryptophan to improve your mood. What could be better?

6. Goji berries – Exhaulted by Tibetan monks who consider it to be an anti-ageing, strength-building superfood. High in antioxidants and essential fatty acids.

7. Kale – A leafy vegetable rich in nutrients, including vitamin K, calcium, vitamin C and manganese. It is great as a bed of greens with any foods and wonderfully tasty. Also spray with olive oil and bake to make easy snacking kale fries.

This has anti-carcinogenic properties, particularly against colon cancer. eetroot is a good source of silica needed for the utilization of calcium in the body and for healthy skin, hair, nails and bones.

9. Whole-wheat pasta – fibre needed for proper bowel function, also helps with blood sugar control as it slows the release of sugars from carbohydrates. For this reason eating whole grains, as opposed to refined grains, can reduce the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes. Whole grains, such as whole wheat, contain plant chemicals called lignans that have a balancing effect on female hormones and can lower cholesterol levels.

10. Quinao – (pronounced Keen-wa) Quinoa is famous for its amino acid content as it contains all the amino acids needed for humans to build protein. Most grains lack at least one or two of these amino acids which makes this a great basic for at least one meal a day.
