Low Glycemic Foods

The entire diet is based on replacing foods that fall high on the scale with those that follow on the bottom end of the scale. Instead of consuming white breads, pastas, and cereals, look for those that are whole grain. For example:

Bran
Oats
Multigrain bread
Sourdough bread

are all low GI foods that all make a good choice.

You can also add more nuts and seeds into your daily diet, which will also increase your intake of essential fatty acids.

Replace the sweets and confections such as candy, soft drinks, and baked goods with fruits. However, not all of them fall onto the low end of the GI scale, so you will want to watch carefully.

Low GI fruits include:

Apples
Peaches
Plums
Berries

Apples and berries are particularly good for you because of their cleansing and antioxidant properties. Potatoes, on the other hand, fall onto the high end of the scale because of their high starch content. Vegetables are another main area of this diet.

Some examples are:

Spinach
Brocolli
Sprouts
Chinese vegetables

Other great low GI foods include:

Yogurt
Eggs eg omellete
Fish
Chicken
